Fight Night Round 3 Preview
Posted by cwilson, on Aug 20, 2008 Dec 31, 1969 19:00

The Fight Night series has progressed over time to become one of the best boxing franchises ever.  The series has slowly been transforming in to the best boxing experience without having to step in a ring.  The game is now set to make the next-gen leap when Fight Night Round 3 debuts on the Xbox 360 in a few weeks.

If you can’t wait until the game is released, you can download a small demo of the game on Xbox Live.  The demo consists of 4 rounds, and you can choose Bernard Hopkins or Roy Jones Jr. as your fighter.  The demo does enough to get you excited for the game, and it leaves you wanting more.

The biggest thing that will jump out at you is the graphics.  The game looks absolutely amazing, and this is what you would expect a next-gen to look like.  The boxers are extremely detailed and look real.  The effects are what will blow you way.  The way a boxer’s face reacts to getting hit, and the spit and blood that occasionally flies when you take a hard shot makes the game look very realistic.  I was really blown away from what I saw in the demo.

EA is billing the graphics as Film-Quality Graphics.  There is no display in the game to show damage to the fighters.  Instead, you can gauge your opponent’s health by their facial expressions and body language.  The camera angle is zoomed in to put you right in the middle of action, and the environments are photo realistic.

• Talk the Talk, Walk the Walk - Establish intense rivalries of your own by intimidating opponents before the big fight with heated press conferences full of hype, trash talkin’, and fights at weigh-ins. Relive the best rivalries of your career in ESPN’s Instant Classics!

• Style Defines a Fighter-Create a style of your own, then see how you match up against the authentic signature styles from the world’s best fighters. Licensed boxers use tactics and strategies that match their real life counterparts. Self Determinant AI adapts its style to match user strengths and to exploit weaknesses.

• Online Gameplay - EA SPORTS Fight Night Round 3 features online play with Xbox Live, PSP (PlayStation Portable) and PlayStation 2 online.

Fight Night Round 3 features three new Impact Punches.  It only takes one punch to change a fight, and these new punches can do just that.  There is a lot of risk with these punches, but the reward is well worth the risk.  One of the new punches will put you in a mid-fight mini-game that will let you land a knockdown punch.  If you fail to land one of these punches, you better be prepared to take a beating.

Other features of Fight Night Round 3 include:

• Boxing’s Greatest Rivalries - Watch ESPN Classic footage of real-life bouts or re-create the greatest fights from past and present including Arturo Gatti vs. Mickey Ward, Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Eric Morales, and Ali vs. Frasier.
